Publishing as we know it today is broken. That's why we founded Tempest Press.
Four of us met recently at El Sombrero on Stanton and Rivington and agreed that it's too hard today for quality fiction to reach an audience. Big publishing companies publish only to a formula and small presses are drawn to obscurantism. Both large and small presses tend to look to graduate programs and industry insiders for fresh talent. And while some good books get published this way, the reading public suffers from a lack of choice.
Tempest Press is small. We can only publish a few titles a year. We're starting with Andrew Edwards' novel "Powder Hills", which will reach the market in early 2007.
